This has been a difficult round of bargaining, and we thank all of you who took the time to participate in town halls, learn about the agreement, and vote. Thank you for speaking up, showing up, and supporting each other through the last 20 months of negotiations.
A special thank you to our Local Unit Executives who helped share information and to AHS Bargaining Committee members including Megan Connolly, Sarah Dorma, Jason Soklofske, Vicki Wakulchyk, Sarah Mullin, Kelly Sherwood, Chandra Arsenault, and Brittany Fandrick who worked tirelessly to secure many of the gains in this agreement.
And to all of our non-AHS members who patiently waited for the completion of this bargaining process, we thank you too.

Collective Agreement Implementation - FAQs
This agreement is in effect as of November 25, 2025, and covers the period of April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2028.
We know you have questions! Here are some answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the agreement:
Retroactive Pay Coming Soon
We are working with the employer to finalize retroactive pay timelines. The estimated deposit date is the December 24 payroll.
Members seeking retroactive pay who ended their employment between April 1, 2024, and November 24, 2025, will have 90 days to submit a request for payment as explained below.
- By mail:
Attention: HSAA Retro Request
Alberta Health Servies, IBM Building
10044 108 Street Edmonton, AB T5J 3S7 - By email at: HRSSGeneral@albertahealthservices.ca
Note: Former employees who contact the employer will be paid any owed retroactive payments. The employer will not contact them.
When New Benefits Take Effect
While most improvements come into effect immediately, others have set start dates:
- New market adjustments and wage steps for specific professions identified in the agreement will take effect immediately, as will the two per cent long-service pay for members with 20 or more years of service.
- Preceptor pay, increased on-call premiums, and higher travel reimbursement rates will take effect immediately.
- Improved coverage for Continuous Glucose Monitoring begins January 1, 2026.
- All other benefit improvements, including expanded massage therapy and dental coverage, begin March 1, 2026.
- EMS Automatic Trial Progression begins immediately. EMS members have 60 days to notify their employer of their classification change to take advantage of this improved language. We encourage members who recently changed classification to contact their manager immediately.
- The improved interpretation of personal leave days recognizing the full length of shift begins April 1, 2026.
Professional Fees Reimbursement
Members are now eligible for $504 in professional fee reimbursement and will soon be able to submit their receipts through Alberta Health Services Accounts Payable and the I Expense system. Members are encouraged to contact their employer for further information on the reimbursement process.
The reimbursement of professional fees is not retroactive and will apply to receipts dated after November 25, 2025.
Job Classification Reviews and Closing Compensation Gaps
One of the most important outcomes of this agreement is securing two new Letters of Understanding (LOUs).
The first allows HSAA to work with AHS to identify market adjustments needed for retention and recruitment. This may result in additional market adjustments during the term of the agreement.
The second allows HSAA to work with AHS to review classifications for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, kinesiologists and exercise specialists. This review will not negatively impact salaries and may lead to improvements.
In the coming months, we will be consulting with our members to bring classification and market adjustments forward to the employer.
Rural Capacity Investment Fund
Details on next steps for the $54-million Rural Capacity Investment Fund (RCIF) jointly administered by HSAA and your employer will be available early in 2026.
