What to write to the government - sample form letter:
Dear [MLA Name],
As your constituent and a member of the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA), I am asking for your help in ensuring Alberta reaches a fair agreement with health-care professionals that values the important work we do. Without a new agreement, there is a serious risk of a strike or lockout that disrupts patient care in our community.
I am one of 30,000 highly-skilled professionals working across Alberta’s entire health system. From emergency response to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, HSAA members are on the front lines of patient care every day.
I am a [INSERT PROFESSION] and we care for Albertans by [DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO AND WHY IT MATTERS!]
My coworkers and I are working under unmanageable workloads, and burnout is driving more people to leave health care or leave Alberta altogether. Without wages and working conditions that attract and keep skilled professionals like me, Albertans will experience longer waits and delays. That’s why we are asking for a better offer that values our work and makes people want to work in heath care.
I don’t want to see a strike. I want to continue providing care to my patients with all the support, respect, and resources we need.
I am asking you, as my elected MLA, to do whatever you can to encourage Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta to come back with a better offer.
Please stand with us. A stronger agreement for health-care professionals means stronger care for Albertans.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
