It’s going to be a busy year of bargaining for HSAA. In April, we exchanged non-monetary proposals for new collective agreements with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Covenant Health, affecting about 20,000 HSAA members – but that’s just the tip of the bargaining iceberg.

Briefly, it’s her job to get more HSAA members engaged with their Local Units and active in their union. Being involved in the union is a role close to hear heart. What a difference a year makes!

When HSAA’s Social Justice Committee first organized an evening cooking meals for families in crisis in 2016, it was a struggle to sign up 12 members as volunteers. Earlier this year, when committee chair Faika Satterthwaite sent an email asking for people interested in taking part she received more than 60 emails in only a few hours.

(Andy) Armando Escalona was a member of a charity surgical team that went to Ecuador as part of an orthopedic mission to treat poor people who are unable to access the care they need, to enable them to walk, to earn a living, to be pain free, to play or to run.
