Joint OH&S Committees

What is a Joint OH&S Committee?

This article provides general information concerning joint OH&S committees. It is important to note that joint OH&S committees are not required under Alberta legislation. The collective agreement for each bargaining unit provides for the establishment of a JOHS committee. Although the language varies, most collective agreements require that the number of employer representatives does not exceed the number of representatives from HSAA and other employee groups.

Code of Conduct

HSAA Joint OH&S Committee members attend meetings as union representatives - not as employees. They should obtain input from and report back to the local unit and membership. These principles are important for union representatives to follow.
