Sponsorships
HSAA will sponsor Board and members to attend various events, unless otherwise stated, throughout the year. HSAA will cover registration, salary replacement, travel, meals and accommodations in accordance with expense policy 7.1.
Members-at-large
For all conferences, events, meetings, etc., sponsored by HSAA, members who submit their names and are not selected and members-at-large may apply to receive funding from the Labour Relations Fund.
The Labour Relations Fund is for the registration and/or tuition fees and other related expenses up to the maximum allowed for labour relations courses, conferences, and workshops and, must be directly related to labour relations, unionism or social justice. Salary replacement is not covered.
The following is a list of events that HSAA has approved sponsorship for:
AFL Kids Camp - Adult Leaders/Volunteers
HSAA will sponsor up to three (3) members at salary replacement up to 38.75 hours or shifts missed if more than 38.75 hours. In addition, expenses and mileage will be paid when not provided by AFL.
The President’s expenses and salary to be covered by HSAA should she be able to attend (affiliate line item).
AFL Kids Camp – Campers
HSAA will sponsor up to 15 eligible children of HSAA members for registration at the AFL Kids Camp. (Eligible means the age of the child falls within the AFL’s age category).
Individual applications will be selected by draw at the registration deadline. Priority will be given to 1st time campers.
Selection process for AFL Kids Camp
1. Active members may apply for sponsorship for eligible children.
2. Preference will be given to first time attendees.
3. If a member sponsors more than one child they will be eligible for one spot.
4. If there are more first time applicants than available spots, participants will be selected by a draw.
5. If there are not enough first time applicants and there are still spots available, a second draw will take place with the names of all remaining applicants. (If a member has sponsored more than one child and, and not all are selected to attend, it will be the parents responsibility to decide which of their children attends).
AFL/CLC Labour School (Jasper)
HSAA will sponsor ten (10) members to attend the labour school annually.
AFL Convention (biennial)
HSAA will sponsor all Board members and 5 members-at-large to attend. All expenses covered. Priorities for Members-at-large will be: Members of AFL committees (1), Members on HSAA committees (2), Local Unit Chairs (3), Local Unit Representatives (4) and Members-at-large (5).
AFL Mid-term Conference
HSAA will sponsor 10 members to attend. All expenses covered. Priorities for members will be: Board members (1), Members of AFL committees (2), Members on HSAA committees (3), Local Unit Chairs (4), Local Unit Representatives (5) and Members-at-large (6).
AFL Fundraising commemorative brunch
HSAA will purchase a table for ten (10), tickets only. (HSAA will only cover expenses if you are a member of the AFL Women’s Issues Committee)
Alberta Labour Arbitration Conference (Calgary)
HSAA will sponsor 3 Vice Presidents and 2 Board members (alternates from the Labour Relations Appeals Committee) to attend annually.
National Union of Public & General Employees (NUPGE) Leadership School
HSAA will sponsor two (2) board members annually, who have not previously attended. (Preference will be given to VP’s.)
NUPGE Convention (triennial)
HSAA will sponsor all board members (and 2 Members-at-large). Priorities for Members-at-large will be: Members of NUPGE committees (1), Members of AFL committees (2), Members on HSAA committees (3), Local Unit Chairs (4), Local Unit Representatives (5) and Members-at-large (6).
Canadian Health Professionals Secretariat
HSAA will send the President, Director of Labour Relations (or designate) and a Vice President (as selected by the HSAA Executive).
Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Convention (triennial)
HSAA will sponsor all board members.
Calgary & Edmonton District Labour Councils - labour schools
Members can access the Labour Relations Fund to help cover the cost to attend.
Parkland Institute (fall conference)
HSAA will sponsor two (2) board members and four (4) members-at-large to attend on an annual basis.
Alberta Congress Board
HSAA will send the President or Vice President, as schedule permits.
Health Sciences Association of British Columbia (HSABC) convention
HSAA will sponsor the President and 1 Board member annually. (If President cannot attend, send 2 Board members).
Alberta Health & Safety Conference and Trade Fair
HSAA will sponsor two (2) members annually, with preference to the OHS&W Committee.
PIA Conference
HSAA will sponsor two (2) Board members, four (4) members-at-large, HSAA President and HSAA/PIA Representative. A table for 8 will be purchased on an annual basis. Members not selected can access the Labour Relations Fund.
Prairie School for Women
HSAA to sponsor four women members to attend annually.
Breakfast with the Guys (Edmonton & Calgary)
HSAA will purchase two (2) tickets for each event annually. No other expenses, including salary replacement, will be covered.
